About Wilma Vritra

Wilma Vritra is an intercontinental collaboration between West Coast hip-hop musician Hal Williams (Pyramid Vritra) and British producer and composer Wilma Archer. The songs on the duo's 2019 debut album, Burd, showcase Williams' honest, introspective lyrics over Archer's lush, fluid instrumentals which incorporate elements of funk, jazz, and gospel. Hal Williams is a member of the Jet Age of Tomorrow, an Odd Future-affiliated jazz/hip-hop duo also containing Matt Martians of the Internet. He has also released several solo albums, mixtapes, and EPs as Pyramid Vritra (or just Vritra), including 2014's Indra, issued by Stones Throw. Archer has released solo material as Slime, toured as a member of Vondelpark, and produced or remixed songs by Jessie Ware, Amber Mark, Jeremiah Jae, Lianne La Havas, and others. The two musicians began remotely collaborating in 2017, with Archer providing beats to accompany Williams' lyrics about depression and societal unrest. Eventually Archer flew to Los Angeles to produce the majority of the album with Williams, with final touches recorded in London. Burd was released by U.K.-based Bad Taste Records in 2019. ~ Paul Simpson
