About Vincenzo Capirola
Although not described as a teacher this Italian composer and lute player composed works for the lute which range from very simple pieces to works that demand the touch and finesse of a virtuoso (the range being a possible indication of teaching interests). The "Capirola Lutebook" documents Italian lute writing methodologies and performance techniques between c.1511 and c.1536, the most important source of its kind. Musical genres contained in this corpus of literature include chansons, motets, mass movements, dances and ricercares. ~ Keith Johnson
