About Ulf Wallin

Swedish violinist Ulf Wallin attended the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He has appeared as a concerto soloist, chamber musician, and solo recitalist, and he has toured Europe, Asia, and the United States. Wallin has worked with prominent conductors, including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Paavo Järvi, Jesús Lopéz Cobos, Walter Weller, Andrew Manze, and Franz Welser-Möst; performed with chamber musicians, such as Bruno Canino, Heinz Holliger, Ursula Holliger, András Schiff, and Tabea Zimmermann; and recorded many albums with his longtime accompanist, Roland Pöntinen. Wallin was a visiting professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, and at the Detmold Academy of Music. Since 1996, he has been a professor of violin at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin. In 2013, Wallin was awarded the Robert Schumann Prize by the city of Zwickau, and in 2014, he became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. He has recorded prolifically on BIS, CPO, Stradivarius, and Arte Nova Classics, and he has released recordings of the complete works for violin and piano of Paul Hindemith, Arnold Schoenberg, Karl Goldmark, Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann, and Max Reger. ~ Blair Sanderson
