About Ubik
North London-based duo of Dave Campbell and Viv Beeton who formed to release their own material after offering remix and production work for Michael Rose and Kym Mazelle. They debuted with ‘Techno Prisoners’, a Detroit-derived mantra that featured the hook from Rochelle Fleming’s ‘Love Itch’. It cost just £70 to record (the hire of the DAT machine), but introduced them and their local Zoom Records label to many new admirers.
