About The Group Fire

A gospel quartet who weave their smooth vocal harmonies into an uplifting mix of contemporary R&B, gospel, and jazz, the Group Fire made their full-length debut in 2012 with It Takes a Village. They hit the Top 20 of the Billboard gospel airplay chart for the first time in 2019 with "Again." Based in New Jersey, brothers Terelle (lead vocals) and Juwan Cooper (tenor) and Tajohn (alto) and Al-Shamir Hill (baritone) secured the endorsement of the Coopers' grandfather, Jet Records North/East CEO Bishop T. Cooper, in 2009. Noting the teens' consistency in both performing and winning over audiences, he formally put the group together with Terelle and Juwan's father, producer/songwriter Steve Cooper, to develop fresh material for them. The resulting album, It Takes a Village, appeared on the label in mid-2012. Three of the four members joined Al-Shamir as high school graduates the following year. The singers worked with Steve Cooper again on the follow-up, Join the Praise Party. It saw release in October 2016. The Group Fire eventually returned with "Again" in early 2019. The track marked their debut on Billboard's Gospel Airplay chart, where it peaked at number 17, and they performed the song on the next year's Stellar Awards broadcast. They placed just outside the Top 20 on the same chart in 2020 with "More Than Friends." ~ Marcy Donelson
