About The Granite Shore

The project of Exeter-based musician Nick Halliwell, the Granite Shore create smart, understated English guitar pop with a literate feel. Halliwell launched both the band and his record label, Occultation, in 2009, with a pair of 10" singles, one from the Granite Shore called Tomorrow Morning, 3 A.M. and one from revived post-punk act the Wild Swans, with whose band he shared several members. Over the next few years, Halliwell worked simultaneously on his own music while establishing Occultation as a haven for other beloved cult new wave and indie pop bands returning to the fold. He brought bands like the Distractions and the June Brides into his stable, producing and occasionally writing for them, all the while fostering a collaborative atmosphere where members of various bands would also play on Granite Shore recordings like his 2012 single, Flood of Fortune. Finally, in 2015, the band made a proper full-length debut with the elegant Once More from the Top, enlisting a host of players including June Brides member Phil Wilson and American multi-instrumentalist Probyn Gregory (Brian Wilson, the Wondermints). Two years later, the Granite Shore returned with their critically acclaimed follow-up, Suspended Second. ~ Timothy Monger
