About The Debutantes

San Francisco-based trio the Debutantes wasted no time in recording their debut single, "Don't Call Me Hillary," in March 1999. One hour after bass player/vocalist Erin "Red" Thompson and drummer/vocalist/songwriter/producer Deona Perfet got together for their first rehearsal, they entered the studio and lay down the single's rhythm tracks. Two weeks later, guitar tracks were added by Sonny Haire. Released in April, the single went on to become a regional hit. Thompson and Perfect were initially brought together by a friend at the gym where they studied yoga. In addition to playing together with the Debutantes, they remain members of a second band, Shekhinah, that released their debut album, Give It Love, in 2001. Perfet showcased her songwriting talents, penning all 11 tunes on the album. A graduate of Stanford University, Thompson occasionally masquerades as astrologer and tarot card reader, Madame Ruby. ~ Craig Harris
