About The Crucifucks
Though their anti-establishment politics and bent for provocative, deliberately offensive lyrical posturing made them something of an American analogue to England’s legendary Crass, the Michigan punk outfit Crucifucks also possessed an absurdist streak that linked them to the acerbic humor of Jello Biafra and the surreal social satire of Pere Ubu. The group formed in Lansing in 1982 and released two albums on the Alternative Tentacles imprint. The second of these, 1987s WISCONSIN, was recorded in New York and featured Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley on drums. Both albums are bracingly primitive, intensely enjoyable punk rock that recalls acts like Fear, early Black Flag, and even the pop-savvy roar of the Buzzcocks.
