About Texas
Texas have been interweaving sophisticated pop, soul and R&B since their formation in 1986. The Glasgow group—named after German filmmaker Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas—released their debut full-length, Southside, in 1989, delivering soaring rock songs like “I Don’t Want a Lover” that benefit from both lush synths and a country bent. In 1997, they scored a No. 1 with White On Blonde. This album, with its slick R&B grooves and singer Sharleen Spiteri’s sensual vocals, turned the group into goliaths of soulful pop, especially thanks to the aching “Say What You Want”. Since then, they’ve expanded their sound into dance pop (2000’s “Inner Smile”) and throwback disco (2017’s “Let’s Work It Out”); there’s also a couple of collaborations with hip-hop giants Wu-Tang Clan, including the slinky and cinematic title track from 2021’s Hi.
