Strange U are a futuristic sci-fi hip-hop duo from London, consisting of MC Kashmere and beatsmith Dr. Zygote (aka left-field house producer the Maghreban), both veterans of the British rap scene. In stark contrast to both the mumble rap popular during the 2010s as well as the grime scene normally associated with London, Strange U's playfully sinister brand of hip-hop is much closer to underground eccentrics like Kool Keith and Company Flow. Over a backdrop of booming abstract funk, Kashmere delivers brash, direct rhymes referencing conspiracy theories and cartoons, laced with a biting sense of humor. The duo made their debut with the Scarlet Jungle EP, released by Eglo Records in 2013. Follow-up EP #2040 was self-released in 2014, and Aliens in Suits appeared on Par Excellence later in the year. Strange U then signed to High Focus Records in 2016 and dropped the singles "Bullet Proof Mustache," "Mr Kill," and "Shots" before their debut album, #LP4080, arrived near the end of 2017. ~ Paul Simpson
