About Steven Lindsay

b. Scotland. Formerly the guitarist and vocalist with perennially underrated Scottish pop rockers the Big Dish, Lindsay embarked on a composing career following their disbanding in 1992. He provided music for several television soundtracks while supplementing his income with work as a manager and producer. In the early years of the new millennium, Lindsay teamed up with former Big Dish associate Craig Armstrong on the latter’s 2002 recording As If To Nothing. The collaboration prompted Lindsay to resume working as a solo artist, with an ambitious tour of Europe in tandem with an orchestra preceding the release of his 2004 debut Exit Music. Influenced by Lindsay’s soundtrack work, the album teetered on the edge of pop-light blandness but was rescued by Lindsay’s affecting vocals and some beautiful string arrangements from Armstrong. The major label follow-up Kite, released in 2007, was emboldened by a novel reworking of the classic Pixies track ‘Monkey Gone To Heaven’, but too much of the remainder floated by inconsequentially.
