About Ski Oakenfull

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. By six, I had started learning the piano, composing simple pieces. Later, my uncle lent me a Yamaha 4-track, and that became my playground. I experimented with a cheap keyboard, recording my voice, creating beats, making weird electronic music. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? David Sylvian, Gone to Earth Herbie Hancock, Head Hunters Ryuichi Sakamoto, Thousand Knives of Ryuichi Sakamoto Gone to Earth ia a perfect blend of ambient & jazz with beautiful piano by my hero Ryuichi Sakamoto. Thousand Knives is Sakamoto's first solo album and an electronic masterpiece. Head Hunters was my first introduction to the Jazz & the Fender Rhodes Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Fifths” This track is a homage to two of my favourite artists, Herbie Hancock and Larry Heard. It features a bass riff (in fifths) played on my Fender Rhodes, mixed with an 808 house groove. It was the first track on my debut LP, "Life Changes' [2000] What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? In the cold winter of 1994 I spent an amazing three weeks in New York with 'Raw Stylus' for their album 'Pushing Against The Flow', recording at Donald Fagen’s studio ‘River Sound’. Steely Dan's Gary Katz was the producer! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? My dream is to spend in a year in Japan, making field recordings and writing Ambient music. I would probably take an onsen every day.
