Started in 2007 by vocalist/guitarist Alastair Thomas and drummer Oliver Nathan, indie fivesome Shortstraw's line-up may have changed over the years—but their accompanying sense of humour has not. And, regardless of the genre they’re dabbling in—Afro-indie, garage punk, kwela, pop and mbaqanga, to name a few—their catchy melodies, quirky riffs and angsty stage persona continue to appeal to audiences as far as Europe, Australia and Japan. 2017 saw the MK and MTV Africa Music Award-nominated all-stars complete their most ambitious project to date in the form of Those Meddling Kids. The album was released over the course of a year, with each new track (and its music video) dropping on the first Friday of every month.
