By his mid-20s, London-based producer Scribz Riley had already made a name for himself as a producer with a magic touch, nabbing a couple of Grammy Awards and collaborating on projects like H.E.R.’s 2017 self-titled debut and Cardi B’s 2018 album, Invasion of Privacy. Born Michael Orabiyi in East London in 1993, Riley’s talents are myriad—he’s also a singer, rapper and songwriter—and his blend of warm R&B, modern rap and alt-pop has helped elevate tracks by artists like Tove Lo (2017’s “Lies In the Dark”) and Khalid (2019’s dreamy “Bad Luck”). But the music he’s released under his own name has proven to be just as impactful as his work behind the boards for others. His 2020 debut album, Wish Me Luck, was by turns soulful and sensual (“On My Sleeve”), tailored to steamy dance clubs (“Mandy”), and true to his East London roots (“East Side”).
