Rockin' Dopsie, Jr.

About Rockin' Dopsie, Jr.

Carrying on the traditions of his late father, singer and rubboard player Rockin' Dopsie Jr. emerged among contemporary zydeco's most successful second generation performers. Born David Rubin, he took over his father's group the Zydeco Twisters following Dopsie's 1993 death; without missing a beat, Junior led the band on their scheduled tour and also assumed control of their regular performances at New Orleans' Maple Leaf Bar. In addition to maintaining the Zydeco Twisters' core lineup -- primarily his brothers Anthony on guitar and Alton Jr. on drums in addition to guitarist Paul Senegal and bassist Alonzo Johnson -- Rockin' Dopsie Jr. also added a keyboard player to begin expanding the band's sound into funk and rock; he issued his debut LP Feet Don't Fail Me Now in 1995. ~ Jason Ankeny
