About Rick Derringer
Originally a member of the chart-topping McCoys of "Hang On Sloopy" fame, Rick Derringer would go on to team up with brother Randy to form the nucleus of Johnny Winter’s backing group. Rick subsequently joined the Edgar Winter Group and produced their best-selling 1972 album, THEY ONLY COME OUT AT NIGHT. Meanwhile, Derringer recorded his first solo album, 1973’s heavy metal-tinged ALL AMERICAN BOY, featuring the eternal rock anthem and top 40 hit "Rock & Roll, Hoochie Coo," before releasing several albums under the band name Derringer. While an established solo performer, his true glory came as a session musician extraordinaire on albums ranging from Steely Dan and Cyndi Lauper, to a memorable turn on "Weird Al" Yankovic's smash "Eat It," where he aped Eddie Van Halen. In the '90s, Derringer returned to solo recording, unleashing BACK TO THE BLUES and ELECTRA BLUES.
