About Redtenbacher's Funkestra

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Luckily I was told off by my recorder teacher that I didn't practise enough. This gave way to discover the bass guitar which I was hugely attracted to. 1st bass lines ever played 'Sunshine of my love' (Cream) & 'Chameleon' (Herbie & The Headhunters). What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Herbie Hancock, Head Hunters Miles Davis, Kind of Blue Weather Report, Heavy Weather This was not the music of mainstream radio or the music my classmates were listening too. This was counter-culture, different, bohemian - hugely inspiring and mystical as I could only sense my attraction to it without 'understanding' it yet. Epic! Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Funktionality” I love that many bassists around the globe are sending me videos of them playing this tune and specifically the slap bass line. Considering how many fantastic bass lines there are since the beginning of Funk - a triumph of connectivitity. Humbling! What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I feel lucky that my music is performed all over the globe by other bands too. One memorable moment is performing arrangements of my music with 45 piece orchestra. Recording with with Fred Wesely (James Brown) & his encouragement that I can do this. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Plenty! Want to perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival and Blue Note clubs around the world. We had many offers to go the US yet visa recommendations always stopped us in the tracks. More collabs with likeminded artists too!
