Toronto music producer prodGK (aka Gurminder Kajla) has been a key force in pushing the Punjabi and desi sound to the world, working with prominent Punjabi artists like Jassa Dhillon, Sukha and Chani Nattan. Pairing signature hip-hop and R&B sounds with 808s with a deep sense of melody, prodGK’s music often features bellowing vocals—perhaps the most “Punjabi” aspect about his style. Behind the boards as a sound engineer as well as a producer, his breakthrough was arguably with one of Punjabi music’s greatest: the late Sidhu Moose Wala. The emotive “Mirza” was released in 2019 and, since then, prodGK has attached his skills as a beatsmith to artists such as Sukha on the EP UNDISPUTED, and finessed mixes for artists like Shubh on songs like “Hood Anthem” and “Safety Off”. While he has also released club-friendly cuts as a solo artist, including “Gallan” and “Voicemail”, prodGK remains a producer—helming hits like Prem Dhillon’s buoyant banger “Silicone” in 2023.
