Phil Lanzon started playing keyboards in 1958 at the whopping age of eight. By the age of 16 he was playing in his first band, Loose Ends. His next group was the Cats Pyamas, who actually recorded a few singles. By 1977 he had formed his own band called Romance. A year later he was playing in a group called Paris alongside Bernie Shaw. This was to be the first time the duo would be in a band together. As time went on, he began doing a lot of session work, performing on a lot of records. In 1979 he joined hard rock group Grand Prix, playing on three albums with that group. This was his second time performing with Bernie Shaw. His next stop was playing in Sad Café for a time, although he never recorded with the group. By early 1985 he had moved onto Operator (a lineup featuring former members of Michael Schenker Group and Motorhead). However, this group broke up just a few months after he signed on to their lineup. Lanzon was back to his session work, playing on several recordings, and then he hooked up with the newly reformed Sweet. He toured with them and the resulting live album features his work. He left that group in 1986. His next move was joining Uriah Heep. As fate would have it, Bernie Shaw came to join him in this group in short order. Lanzon continued as the keyboardist for Uriah Heep to this day. ~ Gary Hill
