About Paul Mottram

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember going to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall to see my favourite violinist, Itzhak Perlman, who was playing three concertos back to back, Mozart, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky, which was almost unprecedented. It was extraordinary. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Chick Corea, The Vigil Claudio Abbado, Mahler: 10 Symphonies Box Set Steely Dan, Steely Dan: The Definitive Collection The Vigil combines two of my favourite jazz musicians, Chick Corea & Tim Garland. Mahler's Symphonies are among my favourite classical music. And in my opinion, Steely Dan elevates pop to a higher level of musical sophistication. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Sunset” With this orchestral track I wanted to evoke finality and peace - I was imagining a sun setting over water when I wrote it. It was recently played on BBC Radio 2 the day after Queen Elizabeth passed away. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Recording my 'Seven Ages of Man' Album at Abbey Road Studio 1. I know the studio well from numerous production recordings, but 'Seven Ages' was a personal endeavour, a reflection on the stages of life and a synthesis of the classical and jazz worlds. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Like most composers in my position, I'd love to hear my music performed at the Proms!
