About One More Grain

Frontman Daniel Patrick Quinn, the former head honcho of Suilvan Recordings, is the heart and face of One More Grain, performing his songs in a spoken word, stream-of-consciousness, beat poetry manner reminiscent of the Fall's Mark E. Smith or Art Brut's Eddie Argos. His vocals overlap the group's worldly hodgepodge of rock, one song a peppy post-punk beat with ska horns, the next a moody Gypsy carnival theme. Hailing from Lancaster, Quinn moved to Edinburgh and recruited the rest of his band from an Internet query -- drummer Gal Moore, trumpeter Andrew Blick, and bassist DuDu. After gathering together, the foursome began rehearsing in the cellar of a nearby pub, constructing an album's worth of material. Victory Garden Records agreed to release the seven songs that make up Pigeon English in April 2007. Not long after this, DuDu and Moore left the group, to be replaced by bassist Merek Cooper and drummer Laurie Waller, who started working on the follow-up, Isle of Grain, released in January of 2008. ~ Jason Lymangrover
