Emerging in the year 2000 out of the ruins of Japanese indie band the Cimons, My Way My Love were initially formed as a solo project of guitarist Murata Yukio, although he was quickly joined by Hiroe Dai and Owaki Takeshi to complete a henceforth unchanging lineup. Characterized by furious bursts of noise and feedback, My Way My Love took their musical inspiration from the most uncompromising ends of Sonic Youth and Nirvana's discographies. They established a reputation in Japan through frequent touring and a prolific recorded output, beginning with the self-produced Dedicated to an Angel on Your Shoulder in 2001. Three more self-produced albums followed, as well as a number of appearances on compilation albums including a cover of Wire's "Strange" on the London Punk 1977 Tribute album. In 2004 My Way My Love's popularity crossed the Pacific with the release of Hypnotic Suggestion: 01 in the U.S.A. and two exhausting but well-received tours to accompany it. The following year saw the band taking on Europe with similar enthusiasm, and in 2006 the group released It Is But One of Billions of Galaxies in Your Universe on the Austrian Trost label. The same year saw yet another release, with Nothing Is Difficult to Those Who Have the Will becoming the band's first widely distributed release in its home country. From then onward, My Way My Love settled into a pattern of regular and extensive touring and new albums yearly, with 2007's Joy receiving positive reviews in the U.K. music press and 2008's A Holy Land Invader seeing the band's sound evolve in a tighter, more focused direction, in the process losing some of the feedback and noise of previous releases. ~ Ian Martin
