MOD CON

About MOD CON

A three-piece punk outfit hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Mod Con were born out of leader Erica Dunn's previous project, Palm Springs. Sticking with the same lineup -- Dunn on vocals and lead guitar, Sara Retallick on bass, and Raquel Solier on drums -- but eschewing the more Americana-based sound of her previous band, Mod Con take their cue from the classic punk of the Slits and Patti Smith as well as their contemporaries, such as Savages and fellow Aussies Tropical Fuck Storm. The group's first release, a split single with Adelaide-based Fair Maiden, arrived via the Melbourne-based Poison City label in 2017. Becoming a regular fixture on the Australian live scene, Mod Con continued to build a following before decamping to rural Victoria to record their debut album. Spending time at Tropical Fuck Storm's Gareth Liddiard's remote house and studio, the trio laid down what would become their debut album. Modern Convenience was issued at the beginning of 2018, once again on Poison City. ~ Rich Wilson
