About Miguel Mateos
Born in Buenos Aires, singer/songwriter and rock en español pioneer Miguel Mateos first became involved in the Argentinean music scene leading the band Cristal, which also featured his brother Alejandro Mateos on drums. Cristal became Zas in 1979, and after opening for British rock legends Queen in Buenos Aires in 1981, the group issued an eponymous debut album in 1982. Various lineup changes would ensue as the decade progressed and the band issued both studio and live recordings, including the hit single "Tira Para Arriba" and highly successful live album Rockas Vivas. Miguel Mateos y Zas later performed in the U.S. and recorded Solos en America, a Latin rock masterpiece. During the 1990s, Mateos settled in Miami, recording albums in a generally poppier style. ~ Drago Bonacich
