The hip-hop conglomerate Menace Crew is a loose affiliation of French MCs and recording artists assembled to appear on productions put out by the independent label Menace Records. Their highly successful mixtape-style releases Interdit en Radio and Interdit en Radio, Vol. 2 made a significant impact on French hip-hop radio and sales charts in the years of their release. The roster of artists appearing as part of the Menace Crew include Despo Rutti, Bolide, Scred Connexion, Alibi Montana, Youssoupha, Illicite, Mac Kregor, Dontcha, and more. The crew's initial release, Interdit en Radio (2005), was met with such success that the fledgling unit dared not wait to release the compilation's follow-up. Striking while the iron was hot, Menace Crew produced Interdit en Radio, Vol. 2, which hit the market in 2006. Without the muscle provided by major-label support, the record enjoyed similar market success to its predecessor, landing a spot in the Top 100 on French charts. Drawing talent from almost every corner of the French hip-hop community, the Menace Crew maintained a strong foothold as one of the scene's most important and influential independent units. ~ Evan C.
