About Madvillain

Madvillain is a legendary duo featuring masked rapper MF Doom and intrepid producer Madlib, elusive heroes of the hip-hop underground.

• Madvillain came into existence due to Eothen “Egon” Alapatt, general manager of Madlib’s label, Stones Throw Records. Through a friend, Alpatt tracked down MF Doom in Kennesaw, Georgia, and got him some of Madlib’s beats. Doom then flew to LA to work with Madlib.
• The duo’s first and only album, 2004’s Madvillainy, became one of the most critically acclaimed rap albums of all time. A remix album titled Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix followed in 2008.
• Madvillain continued to release loose tracks, including 2010’s “Papermill” and 2016’s “Avalanche”.
• In 2019, MF Doom raised hopes for new Madvillain music by telling Spin that he and Madlib had recorded “three or four” albums worth of material.
