About Luke Howard

Australian pianist and composer Luke Howard was a two-time finalist at the Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition in the early 2000s. ∙ He debuted as a bandleader in 2010 with The Luke Howard Trio’s The Meadowlands, a collaboration with bassist Jonathan Zion and drummer Daniel Farrugia. ∙ Sun, Cloud, his acclaimed 2013 debut solo LP, established his reputation in the contemporary classical music world. ∙ Straddling the line between classical composition and electronic music, he’s assisted such similarly avant-garde artists as Ben Frost, Nico Muhly, and Valgeir Sigurðsson. ∙ Detroit techno legends Jeff Mills and Derrick May joined him in a 2019 collaborative performance with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. ∙ Howard earned a ARIA nomination for his outback-inspired soundtrack work for the 2019 short film The Sand That Ate the Sea. ∙ In 2020, he compiled many of his favorite and most requested compositions into a book of sheet music called 28 Transcriptions for Solo Piano.
