About Laura Marling

British singer-songwriter Laura Marling learned to play guitar from her father, who owned a recording studio frequented by such artists as Black Sabbath and The La’s. ∙ While playing shows as part of West London’s nu-folk scene, Marling attracted the attention of Virgin Records, which signed her to a contract when she was only 16. ∙ Alas I Cannot Swim, her 2008 debut, was the first of four Marling albums to be nominated for the UK’s Mercury Prize. ∙ Beginning with 2010’s I Speak Because I Can, she’s had six consecutive Top 10 albums in the UK. ∙ Marling won top British Female Solo Artist at the 2011 BRIT Awards. ∙ Produced by Ethan Johns (Paul McCartney, Kings of Leon), Once I Was An Eagle was included among Rolling Stone’s list of the 50 Best Albums of 2013. ∙ She earned Best Folk Album Grammy nominations for 2017’s Semper Femina and 2020’s Song for Our Daughter.
