About Karol Szymanowski

An eminent Polish composer whose early style was influenced by German romanticism. About 1917, his music began to show an awareness of Scriabin and impressionism and a new style began to emerge. As a director of the Warsaw Conservatory, his compositions and teaching had a strong impact on Polish music. His ballet Harnasie (based on a folk legend) and his Stabat Mater are among his most important works. ~ Mary K. Scanlan
