In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I grew up in a Missionary Baptist church under the pastoral leadership of my dad, and my mom was the minister of music. I used to sit underneath my mom playing with dolls during choir rehearsal while she taught parts. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? D'Angelo, Voodoo Jill Scott, The Light of the Sun (Deluxe Version) Moonchild, Voyager Though my taste is expansive, these albums represent formative periods of my life that were characterized by transformation and transition. They were lifelines on repeat for when I needed rescuing. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Just Gotta Be Me” This song came to me in my sleep at various stages before I even knew what it was. It chose me, and though I didn’t feel worthy or skilled enough to bring it to fruition, I am reminded each time I listen to it that my vessel is sufficient. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? When I decided to leave the church and my post as choral director, it was one of the hardest decision i’ve ever made, but I couldn’t find me until I left. I did discover, however, how it all prepared me for my life as a producer. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Collaborating with D’Angelo is a top 5 life goal. That and sharing life experiences overseas.
