About Jason Nevins

Cut-and-paste mixmaster Jason Nevins, a New York City native born in 1970, began DJing while working at his college radio station at Arizona State University, and upon returning to the East Coast began creating his first remixes. After producing a handful of compilation tracks, he issued his self-titled debut EP in 1994, followed in 1995 by the full-length Red/Green. Remixes for Janet Jackson and Lil' Kim followed before Nevins rocketed to international fame in 1997 with his mix of the Run-D.M.C. classic "It's Like That," which topped pop charts across Europe on its way to selling several million copies worldwide. Much of Nevins' subsequent work also reflected his love for '80s hits, with reworkings of Run-D.M.C.'s "It's Tricky" and Rob Base's "It Takes Two" as well as Falco's "Der Kommissar" and Toni Basil's "Mickey" appearing soon after. In 1999, the Epidrome label compiled many of his remixes for Universal. Nevins released other albums, such as Pushing It Hard (2003) and The Funk Rocker (2005), but he thrived with the DJ-mix format on releases like Ultra Dance, Vol. 10 and Ultra Weekend, Vol. 5, both of which were released in 2009. He even mixed the soundtrack for MTV's Jersey Shore, issued the following year. All the while, he continued to remix a wide variety of singles for club exposure, including Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love," Carly Rae Jepsen's "The Kiss," and Ariana Grande's "Popular Song." ~ Jason Ankeny
