About James Yorkston
An unconventional Scottish folk musician with a literary bent, James Yorkston is a singer, songwriter, and author who emerged out of Fife's indie scene in the early 2000s as part of the Fence Collective, which also included King Creosote, the Beta Band, and KT Tunstall. He found commercial success with albums like 2004's Just Beyond the River and 2008's When the Haar Rolls In. Yorkston's output became increasingly more cerebral in tone with unique releases like 2014's Cellardyke Recording and Wassailing Society. He returned to the studio for 2019's exploratory The Route to the Harmonium and several collaborative albums with Swedish producer Karl-Jonas Winqvist and the Second Hand Orchestra. The third of these releases, 2025's Songs for Nina and Johanna, featured the Cardigans' Nina Persson and First Aid Kit's Johanna Söderberg.
