About Ivan Yanakov
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My both parents are classical musicians. When I was six years old, they started taking me to their opera rehearsals. I clearly remember the opera they rehearsed - Pergolesi's "La serva padrona". What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Astor Piazzolla, Gidon Kremer, Kremerata Baltica, Astor Piazzolla: Four Seasons of Buenos Aires - Vivaldi: Four Seasons Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Fritz Reiner, Bartok: Concerto for Orchestra - Music for Strings, Percussion & Celesta - Hungarian Sketches Eugene Ormandy, New York Philharmonic, Vladimir Horowitz, Vladimir Horowitz - Golden Jubilee Concert This album by Vladimir Horowitz changed my concept of how to produce clear but singing tone on the piano. The Bartok album opened my eyes to most of the 20th century music. And Kremer's Piazzolla album inspired me to search more for the unusual. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Eight Concert Etudes, Op. 40: Finale” I clearly remember the recording session. We made no cuts, no editing. It was a beautiful summer afternoon; after a couple of coffee cups and three failed takes, we got the right sound, tempo and feel. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My solo recital in Okinawa, Japan - I performed in front of five thousand people! It was a beautiful afternoon and behind the stage there was a stunning panoramic view over the Pacific Ocean. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would like to record and perform all piano sonatas and concertos by Beethoven. This is a goal that I have slowly worked towards achieving.
