About Island
An experimental metal band hailing from Germany, Island formed in 2003. Initially a three-piece (Christian Kolf -- guitars, bass, keys, synth, vocals; Florian Toyka -- guitars, bass, keys, synth, percussion, vocals; and Patrick Schroeder -- drums), Island recorded their first album, Orakel, in 2003 and 2004. A follow-up EP was released later in 2004 -- simply entitled Island EP -- but the roster had some shakeups when founder Schroeder called it a day. Eventually the band expanded to five, taking on Rafael Calman on the drum stool, Clemens Toyka on brass, and Jan Buckard on contrabass. In 2007, Vendlus Records re-released Orakel, with the Island EP tracks added as a bonus. ~ Chris True
