Is/Ought Gap

Formed in 1981 in Athens, Georgia, Is/Ought Gap were part of the scene that produced some of independent music's most unique and lasting acts. They fit into the Athens scene nicely, cultivating a moody post-punk sound of their own that was more introspective than peers like Pylon, but more intense than the soft-focus jangle of R.E.M. They broke up before the '80s ended, leaving behind very few public recordings of their sound, and the various bandmembers went on to play in new groups in and around Athens. After a reunion show in 2014, Is/Ought Gap began revisiting old material and polishing off their long-shelved songs for an album that was eventually released in 2024 under the title SUA.
