About Hugh Cornwell

Hugh Cornwell was well into a solo career before his defection in August 1990 from the seminal, controversial U.K. punk band the Stranglers, with whom he was lead vocalist and guitarist. His extra-curricular activities began in 1979, when he recorded the album NOSFERATU with Captain Beefheart drummer Robert Williams. Cornwell’s next album, 1988’s WOLF, was a disappointing attempt to carve a pop niche. Following his departure from the Stranglers, Cornwell collaborated with Roger Cook and Andy West on 1992’s largely ignored CCW album, before relaunching his solo career with the vibrant collection, WIRED. Cornwell released three Internet-only albums on his own His Records label, prior to BEYOND ELYSIAN FIELDS in 2004.
