About Hakim Jamal

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I was 17 I was invited to do the first of 3 Radio 1 sessions for the John Peel show. Legend has it that Peel was going to a gig and took a handful of demo tapes with him to listen to in the car. By the time he arrived at the gig I'd been chosen! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Hakim Jamal, Not Too Busy to Hate Hakim Jamal, The Soul of Hakim Jamal Hakim Jamal, U Come Thru These albums crystallize the Hakim Jamal style. Rooted in 1970s **** and the messages of the Black Panthers, they're inspired by Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott Heron, Marvin Gaye and Malcolm X. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Song For a Black Woman” Featured on the '20 Golden Greats' album, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London; this is probably my most soulful song, dedicated to the amazing and wonderful artist Nina Simone.
