On Wilco's critically lauded and conspicuously filigreed YANKEE HOTEL FOXTROT, drummer Glenn Kotche (a newcomer to the band at the time) added much of the variety and exploratory flavor to the mix, not surprising considering his previous collaborations with post-rock luminary Jim O'Rourke, and his own inventive solo work. Kotche's compositions explore the possibilities of rhythm, using traditional, found, and treated percussion instruments to create a medley of moods and textures. The Chicago-area musician has also collaborated with singer-songwriter Edith Frost, the Kronos Quartet, and jazz duo On Fillmore.
