About Giovanni Bononcini
Italian composer Giovanni Bononcini (1670-1747) was a member of a musical dynasty that included his father and two brothers. Bononcini's music is devoted mainly to opera, oratorio, and cantatas; the opera Il trionfo di Camilla (1696) established his early reputation. Bononcini arrived in London in 1720, where he experienced great success with Griselda (1722). Competition with Handel and Bononcini's Catholic faith helped wear out his welcome there, and Bononcini concluded his career in Vienna. Bononcini's most famous work is the aria "Per la gloria d'adorarvi" from Griselda; his instrumental music is, for some reason, recorded with more frequency than his vocal works.
