George Parris

About George Parris

George Parris is a bass vocalist and conductor specializing in British choral music. In 2015 he earned his bachelor's degree at Sydney Sussex College, Cambridge, where he founded and became artistic director of the Carice Singers. He conducted many groups while at Cambridge, including an ad hoc orchestra he formed to perform Elgar's Symphony No. 1. Parris served as president of the Sydney Sussex College Music Society and directed the 2013 Sydney Sussex Arts Festival, in addition to establishing the Lady Frances Song Competition at Cambridge. Parris attended Oxford for his master's degree, and sang with the Choir of Magdalen College. He is also the artistic administrator for the Longborough Festival Opera. In combination with his singing and conducting, Parris is a scholar of 20th century British music. His work garnered the Elgar Society's Certificate of Merit in 2011, as well as special recognition from the Peter Warlock Society, the John Ireland Trust, and the Delius Trust.
