Francesco Corbetta

About Francesco Corbetta

Bologna, London and Paris were homes to this Italian composer and guitarist. Corbetta's students included the famed Granata, Louis XIV, the Archduke of Austria, Charles II, and the Duke of Mantua. Corbetta's compositions include an extant five volume set (other volumes may be missing) inclusive of the battute and pizzicate styles (strumming and plucking respectively). The pieces iof music include suites for the guitar, and settings for voice, guitar and continuo. His works are considered to be some of the finest examples of the French style of guitar method and playing in the Baroque era. Many of Corbetta's works were dedicated to Charles II and Louis XIV. ~ Keith Johnson
