About Cy Coleman

A pianist, singer, producer and composer of popular songs and scores for screen and stage, Cy Coleman was a cornerstone of Broadway from the early '60s until the new millennium. Initially working with the lyricist Carolyn Leigh, together they produced many standards of the Great American Songbook such as "Witchcraft" and "The Best Is Yet to Come." Coleman subsequently wrote some of Broadway’s most enduring musicals including SWEET CHARITY (1966), and BARNUM (1980), based on the life of showman P.T. Barnum. The latter captured three Tonys and two Grammys for the Broadway Cast album. Late in his career, Coleman had two of the biggest hits, CITY OF ANGELS (1989) and THE LIFE (1997), based around New York’s hookers and their pimps.
