About Cormac

The vocal talent of an 11-year-old English boy, Cormac Thompson, came to the attention of Decca Records after he posted a version of Frederic Weatherly's "Danny Boy" online for his grandmother in Northern Ireland during 2020's COVID-19-related lockdown. Born in Darwen -- near Blackburn, Lancashire -- the pupil of Aysgarth prep school, North Yorkshire had already raised money for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland the previous December when he sang at a couple of local nursing homes. After receiving an email from Decca about an audition and a potential recording contract, Cormac's mother initially thought it was a prank, but within weeks her son was preparing his debut album at Metropolis Studios in London. In the build-up to its release, the national press ran Cormac's story which helped to raise his profile, as did his cover of Snow Patrol's "Run," which was released as a single in October 2020. The following month brought "Pie Jesu" as well as an album itself, Hear My Voice, on Decca's Classic FM imprint, which combined similar repertoire with a brace of Christmas material. In December, Cormac obliged when Darwen Council requested that he film a video in his hometown accompany a version of "O Holy Night." ~ James Wilkinson
