About Chris de Burgh
Singer Chris de Burgh is best known for his 1986 soft-rock ballad “The Lady in Red”, a worldwide hit that reached No. 1 in the UK and No. 3 in the US. • De Burgh got started singing for guests in the hotel his family owned in County Wexford, Ireland. • He signed his first record deal in 1974 and the same year released his debut, Far Beyond These Castle Walls. • De Burgh’s second album, 1975’s Spanish Train and Other Stories, landed in the upper reaches of the UK albums chart and yielded the Irish No. 1 single “A Spaceman Came Travelling”. • Though he found some success in Norway in the late ’70s, de Burgh’s albums drew little attention elsewhere until the ’80s, when he began to reach the charts in the UK and the US. His 1982 effort The Getaway reached No. 30 in the UK and just missed the Top 40 in the US, while 1984’s Man on the Line climbed to No. 11 in the UK. • His 1986 album Into the Light featured “The Lady in Red” and was the first of four consecutive UK Top 10 albums for de Burgh, peaking at No. 2. • “Missing You”, a single from his 1988 UK No. 1 album Flying Colours, was his second highest-charting single in the UK, reaching No. 3. • De Burgh has released albums at a steady pace through 2016’s A Better World, though he hasn’t cracked the Top 10 since his 2008 LP Footsteps (No. 4).
