About Bruno Maderna
Bruno Maderna (1920-1973) began his career in Italy as a child prodigy, but in time became one of the leading conductors and composers in Europe. After World War II, Maderna became associated with the Darmstadt Festival and was its principal conductor, as well as a contributing composer of serialist works. He joined Luciano Berio in establishing the Studio Fonologia Musicale of the RAI, an institution that advanced the cause of electronic music. Maderna flourished as principal guest conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, leader of the Juilliard Ensemble, and for two years director of the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood.
