Following Mars Volta's 2012 album Noctourniquet, guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and drummer Deantoni Parks formed the alternative rock band Bosnian Rainbows with keyboardist Nicci Kasper and Le Butcherettes vocalist Teri Gender Bender. Born Teresa Suarez, Teri Gender Bender's sexy yet powerful presence affected the project heavily, taking the Mars Volta boys away from their usual experimental post-rock excursions and into a new musical territory that consisted of tight, tidy goth pop songs.
