About Alberto Continentino

Brother of the musicians Kiko Continentino and Jorge Continentino and nephew of Leo Gandelman, Alberto Continentino took up the guitar at nine and the electric bass at 13. His professional debut was in 1995, backing Mauro Senise and Raul Mascarenhas. In the next year, he participated in Milton Nascimento's Nascimento, winner of the World Music Grammy of 1997. In 1997, Continentino joined the Cama de Gato and backed Milton Nascimento in shows, also participating in Nascimento's video documentary A Sede do Peixe, recording one track with Gilberto Gil. With Paulo Moura, Continentino participated in the Tel-Aviv Jazz Festival (Israel); next he toured with Pepeu Gomes. As a session man, he worked with Jussara Silveira, Beto Guedes, Pascoal Meirelles, Elba Ramalho, and Belô Veloso, doing shows with Cláudio Dauelsberg, Idriss Boudrioua, Cama de Gato, Nivaldo Ornelas, Vítor Ramil, and Adriana Maciel. Alberto Continentino is also a member of Caetano Veloso's band and participated in several festivals like the JVC and Montreal Jazz Fest. With his brothers Kiko Continentino and Jorge Continentino, he formed the trio Continentrio. In 2002, Continentino backed Luciana Souza in her performances at the Free Jazz Festival, in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. ~ Alvaro Neder
