Afro-Haitian Experimental Orchestra

The Afro-Haitian Experimental Orchestra assembled around legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen to play with a Haitian band and perform a one-off concert in Port-au-Prince. Five days of rehearsals yielded sprawling jams that wove traditional Haitian folk forms, voodoo songs, and drum chants with funk, Afrobeat, and electronics. The recorded rehearsals were later mixed and combined with new vocals from Eerol Josué, Sanba Zao, and others. The group -- Allen, Mark Mulholland, Olaf Hund, and Jean-Philippe Dary -- soon became an active unit. ~ Thom Jurek
