Editors' Notes The brightest jewel in Campbell’s luminous late-’60s output, Wichita Lineman gleefully batters the boundaries between pop, country, folk, and more. The Jimmy Webb-penned title track’s haunting melody, sophisticated production, and poetic narrative brought pop songwriting to a new level, but it has plenty of proud company. Campbell’s sweet, clear tenor gracefully transforms soul (“(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay”), French chanson (“If You Go Away”), and folk rock (“Reason to Believe”) into an incandescent amalgam that can only be called “Glen Campbell music.”
