The garage jams comprising Monotonix’s first album for Drag City aren’t dirty—they’re straight-up filthy. It all begins with Yonatan Gat: The guitar freak steers the album with super-fuzz riffing that seesaws between greasy ’70s rock (“Flesh and Blood”) and earsplitting free-form blues (“As Noise”). While drummer Haggai Fershtman’s caveman attack follows Gat’s lead, singer Ami Shalev is a loose cannon, his yelps and moans cutting their own wily path, especially on the belligerently chaotic “Spit It On Your Face”.
